Crime Prevention Advice: Theft of Milk from Doorsteps

Dear Residents,

We have received reports of milk being stolen from doorsteps shortly after it has been delivered. While this may seem like a relatively minor theft, we understand that it can be frustrating and concerning for residents, particularly when it happens repeatedly.

We are asking residents to take a few simple precautions to help reduce the opportunity for theft:

Where possible, arrange for milk to be delivered at a time when someone is likely to be at home.

Ask your milk delivery company whether they can leave deliveries in a secure or less visible location.

Consider using a secure, covered milk box or delivery container where appropriate.

If you have a neighbour who is at home, consider asking them to take the delivery in for you.

Avoid leaving milk unattended on the doorstep for longer than necessary.

If you have suitable CCTV, a video doorbell or other security equipment, ensure it is positioned to cover the approach to your property and the area where deliveries are left.

If you witness a theft, make a note of the time, date and any description of the person involved. Where it is safe to do so, retain any relevant CCTV or doorbell footage.

Please do not put yourself at risk or confront anyone you believe may be responsible. If a theft is taking place or there is an immediate threat, contact the police.

Residents are also encouraged to report incidents so that patterns of offending can be identified and appropriate action considered.

By taking these simple steps and looking out for one another, we can help make it more difficult for opportunist thieves to target doorstep deliveries.
